Gita Samarpana programme today

After a month-long campaign on Bhagavadgita in schools across the district, the Bhagavadgita Abhiyaan Samithi will hold a mega valedictory function at the Urs Boarding school grounds here on Tuesday.

Sri Gangadharendra Saraswathi, seer of Sri Sonda Swarnavalli Mahasamsthana, Sirsi told reporters on Monday that about 20,000 students and teachers would attend the Bhagavadgita Samarpana programme.

Good response

The campaign received a good response and was a huge success in the district. The Samithi has distributed about two lakh Gita books, free of cost, to students and teachers compared to mere 26,000 reached out in Mandya district.

Mysore district has topped in the show of enthusiasm after Mangalore.

Distribution

“We distributed 15 lakh copies of Gita in Mangalore. The valedictory will also be unique in district as it will be highest gathering in such programmes held across 24 districts so far in the State. Students will recite few shlokas of Gita en masse on the day,” he said. 

According to him, many Muslim and Christian teachers have also showed enthusiasm in becoming volunteers to teach the 14 and 15 th chapter of Gita which provides for personality development.

“They told us that irrespective of religious scriptures, they are ready to accept anything that is good, and brings about a positive change in the thought and personality of students,” he observed.

Cultural programme

The valedictory event would host to a cultural programme based on Gita.

There would be a play, Yakshagana, dance ballet on several themes of the gita. Also, the programme would see distribution of prizes for winners of gita recital competition held all across the seven taluks in district.

Many students from Missionary and Urdu schools also participated in the competition, he added.

T Shivaprakash, Manjunath Babu, S Nanjundaswamy, D N Krishnamurthy and others were present.
