Rains take break

 People heaved a sigh of relief as there was a let up in monsoon rain that has been battering Kodagu and coastal districts of Dakshina Kannada, Udupi and Uttara Kannada for the last few days.

However, the water level in reservoirs and rivers continued to maintain rising trend as monsoon has been active over Western Ghats.

In the last 24 hours, property worth Rs 2.68 lakh has been damaged in Udupi district including the damage to two houses. However, the heavy rains that have been lashing Dakshina Kannada and Udupi districts for the past few days receded on Friday.

One person died as lightning struck him at Uppinakudru in Kundapura on Thursday. The deceased has been identified as Jagadeesh (19).

Shifting to safer places

"The flood situation in Bavalikudru remains the same. Several houses have been inundated. We are reaching them with the help of a boat and shifting them to safer places," Home Guards Commandant Ganapathy Bhat told Deccan Herald.
Meanwhile, a National Disaster Response Force (NDRF)  visited the flood affected areas in Udupi on Friday.

Mock exercise

About NDRF 90 personnel visited the district and conducted survey in Malpe, Kalmadi, Barkur, Neelavara, Bavalikudru, Nandanakudru, Sankladi, Kalyanapura. They also held a mock exercise. The team will submit a report to the government.

According to a Madikeri report, the sky remained overcast throughout the day.
The inflow of water into Harangi reservoir is 1,316 cusecs. The flood situation in Bhagamandala has improved. Keere hole is overflowing in Gonikoppalu.

As many as 13 families have been shifted to gruel centres (ganji kendras).
Hospet

The inflow into Tungabhadra reservoir has been steadily increasing for the last five days and the water level stood at 1,600 feet. The level rose by four feet in a single day on Thursday. The water level was 1,596.72 feet.
The water level at the
reservoir is 19 TMC less than the last year's storage at the same day.
