Selected for Abbakka awards

Speaking with the media persons, Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava committee Honourary President U T Khader said that a selection committee consisting of litterateur Dr Amruta Someshwara, Dr Paltadi Ramakrishna Achar, Dr Vaman Nandavar, U T Khader, Fr Dennis D’Sa and others selected the awardees. The award will include memento and cash prize of Rs 10,000. Chief Minister B S Yeddyurappa will confer the award, informed Khader.

For the first time, the State government has sanctioned Rs 25 lakh for organising Rani Abbakka Utsava. However, the long pending demand of the coastal people to announce Karavali Utsava as Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava has not been met even this year.

Literary meets

Various cultural programmes and literary meets will be held in Asaigoli on January 29 and 30 on as a part of Veera Rani Abbakka Utsava-2011.

Women literary meet, literary meet of four languages, a discussion session on “Tulunadu: Pallata Samskrutiya Nele-Bele,” “Kavikavya Darshana” - Geethagana Kuncha Nritya Mela will be held on January 29. Cultural programmes of different styles including Vrindagana Lahiri, Sangita-Nritya Roopaka, Nritya Vaividhya, Satyameva Jayate Nritya Roopaka will be staged on the same day. Cultural programmes like Vandana Shastriya Sangita, Gana Lahari Sinchana, Sugama Sangita, Tamashe Factory etc will be held on January 30, stated a release. The programmes will be inaugurated by director K N Tailor and international level sport champion Lalita Jayaram will inaugurate the sport events.
