'Knowledge of co-operative laws must'

Speaking at a training programme for secretaries of Milk Producers Union organised by Karnataka Institute of Management here on Monday, he said secretaries of milk unions knew little about co-operative laws and maintenance of accounts. This had affected milk producers, farmers and halted the growth of the co-operative sector in the State. In view of this, the Mymul had been holding training programme for secretaries and officers working in the co-operative sector. A majority of farmers of the district now switched over to dairying from sericulture after they suffered huge loss. More than 1,200 milk producers unions in Mysore and Chamarajanagar districts.

The Mymul has been supporting economy of people. Financial assistance to the tune of crores of rupees had been disbursed to farmers for buying the milking cows.

Deputy Registrar of Co-operatives K M Shivakumar asked all secretaries to hold meetings regularly and get the accounts audited to maintain transparency. They should take the presidents and directors of the milk unions into confidence. This would help the milk producers to get a better deal.

Political meddling

Director of Mymul Shivanandaswamy opposed interference of politics in the co-operative sector as it would ruin the sector.

Assistant Registrar of Co-operation Department  S Shivaswamy, L Swamygowda, N Kumar and others were present.
