Speaking at the inauguration of Municipalika 2011 on Thursday, the chief minister said: “The government has sanctioned Rs 100 crore each to seven corporations. About 1,435 works have been sanctioned for Rs 485 crore and out of this, 1000 works have already been completed.”
Urban Development Minister Suresh Kumar said that cities were growing at an alarming pace and the government was keen on implementing projects which would visualise the impact over the next 30 years.

Later, speaking to the media, Suresh Kumar said a comprehensive policy on Urban Development would soon be approved by the Cabinet.
“The objective of the policy is to create proper infrastructure and create more jobs,” he stressed.
Based on former President Abdul Kalam’s Vision 2020, the policy will encompass not just Bangalore, but Tier II and III cities as well.
Meanwhile, the Chief Minister also released the Indian Green Building Council’s (IGBC) Green Townships (Pilot) Rating System. The system is designed to address the issues of urban sprawl, automobile dependency, social and environmental disconnect.
