'Water contamination reason for food poisoning'

District administration seals marriage hall, close borewell

 Following this, the Somwarpet police filed cases against the owner of the marriage hall under Sections 277 and 304 of the IPC.

The Health Department had given its directions to the town panchayat to take precautionary measures. The district administration, which took the instance very seriously, had sealed the gate of the hall and collected water samples from the tank for lab analysis. Officials also had closed the borewell of the hall after collecting water samples from it.

The District Health and Family Welfare Department had collected samples in multiple tube method and conducted tests. The department has stated in its report that the water samples collected from the tank and borewell of the hall are not fit for drinking. The report has proved that there were about 180 micro-organisms in 100 ml of water.

Following this, the Health Department has collected water samples from Aloka Restaurant, Amrith Hotel, Ganesh Darshini, treatment unit of the town and other places for lab analysis to ascertain the quality.

Assistant Commissioner Dr M R Ravi has convened an emergency meeting on Saturday and directed officials to take steps to see that such incidents were not recurred.

Protest

The Karnataka Rakshana Vedike activists held protest in front of the Government Hospital in Somwarpet on Saturday demanding compensation to the kin of Krishnappa (45), who had died after consuming food at Manasa Hall.

Members demanded that the government should release compensation to the family members of Krishnappa and also to all persons, who fell ill after consuming food during the marriage ceremony.

Vedike Taluk President H V Nagaraj criticised that the District-in-Charge Minister, Health Minister and the MP did not have to courtesy to visit the place after the incident. The dharna, which started at around 9.30 am, continued till evening.
