An inspection of the East Zone office of the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike (BBMP) at Mayo Hall by the Standing Committee on Establishments and Administrative Reforms has unearthed a diesel scam to the tune of Rs eight lakh by Palike officials.

The committee found that the log book in the control room showed that a Prahari vehicle of the BBMP had run 2,84,092 km. But the reading on the vehicle showed only 74,692 km.
Another Prahari showed a difference of 2,686 km when the log book figure and the reading on the vehicle were compared by the Standing committee members.

The committee members suspect the collusion of BBMP officials with the drivers to steal the diesel to make money on the sly.

Further, the committee members noted that speedometers in most of the BBMP vehicles had stopped working. The committee during its inspection found that 15 to 20 litres of diesel were being shown as the consumption per day even as there were no calls or complaints recorded in the log books.

The Joint Commissioner (East) was unable to provide the details and stated that he was unaware of diesel being misused.

Standing Committee Chairman Lakshimikanth Reddy said the inspection details would be placed before the Council at the monthly session.
