More luxury buses to hit City roads

Speaking at the rolling out of Mercedes Benz multi-axle buses on the Bangalore-Tirupati route, he said: “We are acquiring superior quality buses to provide good services to commuters. We will introduce city bus services in all the districts in a phased manner.”

Ashoka said the department had acquired 30 Mercedes Benz buses and it would purchase more of the multi-axle buses depending on its popularity. Each bus costs anywhere between Rs 85 lakh and Rs 90 lakh. The fare will be decided later, he said.

Initially, the buses will run on trial between Bangalore and Tirupathi and the fare will be the same as Airavat buses.

The Bangalore-Tirupati bus will start at 11.15 pm and arrive at Tirupati at 5 am.

It will leave Tirupati at 9 am and arrive in Bangalore at 3 pm. The fare is Rs 450 for night travel and Rs 400 for day travel.
