Addressing the protesters, Secretary Sukumar said that the Central and the State governments are providing pensions to all officials as per their posts. However, pension paid to the unorganised labourers are minimal.

He said the government should amend EPS 1995 so that the labourers can get a minimum pension of Rs 1,500 per month.

He said that though the issue of pension scheme for labourers had reached the Supreme Court, the court delivered justice in favour of the government.

The banks do not release the pension money, though it is credited on the second of every month, he alleged.

President Vasanth Achari said that the pension should be linked to the Consumers’ Price Index. Accordingly, the dearness allowance should be hiked along with the rise in price of essential commodities.

He also said that the benefit of return of capital should be restored along with commutation system. The pension should be credited on the first of every month.

The Centre’s ratio of 1.16 per cent to the PF should be increased to 6 per cent. Those who avail commutation should get full pension after 100 months, he said.
