Bid to own govt land foiled again

Last Updated 14 April 2011, 16:06 IST

The operation that was led by Tahsildar Manjunath Swamy cleared compound and small sheds built on five acres and 19 guntas of land (survey nos 155/1 and 159/1) near Basavangudi Circle at the locality.

However, it wasn’t an easy task for the gangmen and an earth mover to go ahead, when a few people claimed to have purchased sites on the land took Tahsildar to task.

However, the timely intervention of Metagalli Police brought the situation under control facilitating the drive.

When contacted Manjunath Swamy told Deccan Herald that the land in question had been acquired by the government under Urban Land Ceiling Act several years ago.

The owner of the land Seetharamegowda had moved court and the court had ruled in favour of the government.

Even as the matter was in court, Seetharamegowda’s family had sold the land to CMT Chaluvegowda. Recently two months ago, similar constructions undertaken illegally had been cleared by the district administration.

Following the second attempt, a criminal case has been lodged against Chaluvegowda in Metagalli Police Station, under 192A Land Revenue Act.
