President Barack Obama is expected to make an announcement, the New York Times reported on its website.
According to CNN Osama was killed along with other family members outside the Pakistani capital of Islamabad.
He was killed almost 10 years after the Sep 11, 2001 attacks on the World Trade Centre and the Pentagon in which thousands of people were killed and injured.
