The accident took place when the victims, residents of Nadigalli in Sirsi were heading towards Harapanahalli in Davangere district in a car, to attend a relative’s marriage.
The dead are Shashikala Mukund Jannu (48), Roopa Premanand Jannu (27), Poorvi Premanand Jannu (2) and Imtiaz Ahmed Latif Sheik (45). While, Mukund Vittob Jannu (54) and Premanand Mukund Jannu (32) have been grievously injured in the accident.
Imam Saab Mohammed Ghouse Savikeri of Akkialur and Mallappa Chinappa Gollar of Hirur, who were travelling in the bus, were injured.
The car was heading towards Haveri from Sirsi, whereas the bus was heading towards Hangal from Haveri, when the accident occurred. The bus driver is absconding.
The police had a tough time retrieving the bodies from the car, as rain hampered the operation.
