Nightmare for people from State

Last Updated 05 June 2011, 17:48 IST

After being thrown out to the streets, over thousand people from the State had to take shelter in Bangla Saheb Gurdwara. They are waiting for the next command from their yoga guru.

“It was 2.30 am when we were thrown out in to the streets. We spent remaining part of the night on street”, says Vidya Shanbagh of Belgaum.

“The police behaved brutally with all the people. Women were not spared. Male police personnel caught hold of us. Canes were used to disperse the crowd. They cut water and power connections. The entire pandal was ransacked,” Viday said. Vidya is a yoga teacher and part of a 30-member group from Belgaum.

“The police came in plain cloths. We could not understand why some people were approaching the podium where Baba was sleeping. They surrounded the podium. Baba’s personal guard sensed the situation and alerted Baba. Baba jumped down the dais to evade the arrest,” says Annappa Marathe, an ex-serviceman. He tells how police used dummy bullets to scare the people and fired tear gas.

Even after police took away Baba, they were beating and getting people from the ground. “There would have been a violence. If Baba had not refrained his followers from violence,” says Gowdappa Padagurd.

“The brutal and inhuman action against the people was on its extreme. I think naxalites are better than our police. They are caring and good people,” says Vidya.

But none of these people are ready to leave Delhi because Baba has told them to wait for the next command. “This is a question of faith. How can we leave? We will wait for his command, they say.
