The elephant has destroyed arecanut and banana plantations in the hobli.
The tusker has been visiting the villages in search of food during nights. It was spotted at Mundre, Debbegere and Biggarahalla playing in water during day time.

Though forest department officials had tried chasing the elephant by bursting crackers, all their efforts have gone in vain.
The farmers who have grown banana, arecanut, tomato, maize in acres of land have urged the forest officials to check wild elephant menace. “The farmers were staying in hut near the field to avoid wild bore menace till recently. However, at present, the wild elephants have become nightmare to the farmers,” said a villager.
Tarikere ACF Manjunath said: “We have been making an effort to chase the elephant. If it attacks houses, then we will catch it by tranquilising.”  A team led by Tarikere RFO Srirangaswamy have been engaged in chasing the elephants. The elephant will be sent back to Tanigebailu reserve forest soon, he said.
