It’s popularity is so high that over the years, it has become a landmark for those living in the locality. While the menu has undergone changes several times, the freshness of the items and the cleanliness of the place have remained constant.

The passion for food and the encouragement of friends and family prompted Trimurthy, the owner, to start Hot Chips.

“I wanted to sell freshly made items over the counter. That’s when we decided to serve fresh chips and chaats,” adds Trimurthy.

One can find some of the most crispy banana, potato and tapioca chips here. Gradually, they moved to making fresh fries which became an instant hit amongst the youngsters in the area. Affordable and hygienic, the eatery’s chaat counter too has an eclectic collection. From sev puri, masala puri, bhel puri to the special chaats like pav bhajji, masala cutlets and masala samosas, everything is sold here.

The gol guppas attract Manu, a second pre-university student of Seshadripuram College. “After tuitions I come here with my friends and enjoy the various chaat items. They simply are irresistible. The tangy taste of the water used in the gol guppa is delicious and I also like the masala puri here,” she adds.

Due to lack of space, the eatery has closed its parata corner but has introduced a wide range of freshly baked pastries, ice cream sundaes and cookies. “We have a special range of cookies for the diabetics. And the ones made of oats are also a popular pick amongst the crowd,” says Trimurthy. The cookies come for less than Rs 20 a packet.

Bakery items like puffs, rolls and even a hot cup of coffee are also available here. The only hitch would be the fact that there is no place to sit and enjoy the savouries and it does tend to get crowded but the tasty food more than makes up for it.

When it comes to sundaes, the students find them affordable and the taste is equivalent to any high end ice cream store.

“While everything is good in Hot Chips, the one item that one must try before leaving the place is ‘Choco Dip’. They have really created a good range of pastries and ice creams and hope they keep up the quality of food,” says Gayathri, a second year pre-university student from Bishop Cotton’s Women’s Christian College.

Open on all days between 9.30 am and 10 pm, Hot Chips also takes bulk orders. For details, call 9845372051.
