Fake currency worth Rs 1.98 lakh and a Chinese-made pistol were also recovered by the BSF from another place on the Punjab border with Pakistan. Sources said there were attempts by a few Pakistanis to sneak into India, however, the suspects managed to flee after the BSF opened fire. A night patrolling party spotted suspicious movement in the paddy fields close to the border.
According to the BSF, the Pakistani smugglers were throwing heroine bundles from the border. Plan was to push the bundles of heroine towards the Indian side and then sneak in.
The plan was foiled as the suspects opened fire which was retaliated by the BSF soldiers, Additional BSF Director-General Himmat Singh said.
