Addressing a press conference in the City on Thursday, the erstwhile president said the Taluk Panchayat vice-president Venkatanarayanappa repeatedly scorned her that she won the ‘government reserved post as an independent who was too lucky’.

Manjula added that he accused often, ‘Your party has no quorum.’

“Tormented by his frequent mocking, I have decided to put in my papers,” said Manjula.

No confidence

Congress leader P N Keshava Reddy, who spoke on the occasion, said the vice-president and other members were required to inform the Deputy Commissioner before passing a no-confidence vote against the president. “But, they did nothing of the sort. They should have informed at least the Taluk Panchayat executive officer,” he added.

Venkatanarayanappa has come forward to pass a no-confidence vote, claiming support of eight members of the Panchayat.

Free of accusations

The president Manjula has not been accused of committing anything against the law or of any irregularity. She is only accused of not having cooperated in developmental activities in the taluk, added Reddy.

Criminal case

Venkatanarayanappa was a mandal chief prior to this and had purchased a two-wheeler with funds belonging to the Panchayat.

“A criminal case had also been booked with regard to government auditing. But farmer leader K B Pillappa paid the residual amount and saved him,” alleged Reddy.
