Delhi to get its third Dilli Haat soon

The Expenditure Finance Committee (EFC) of the Delhi government on Tuesday gave its nod to eight projects worth Rs 257 crore, including a modern and green Dilli Haat for Janakpuri in West Delhi.

According to Chief Minister Sheila Dikshit, the third Dilli Haat will be built on 9.80 acres of land and would cost Rs 81.44 crores. “The West Delhi will have a modern and the greenest Dilli Haat which will become a cultural and craft nerve centre immediately after its commissioning in August 2013. It will have ample parking provision and will enrich the quality of life in west Delhi,” said Dikshit.

According to her, Dilli Haat Janakpuri is designed as environment-friendly project.

“Dilli Haat at INA and Pitampura have had amazing foot falls since their inception and on these feedbacks, Dilli Haat at Janakpuri will have a lot of additions”.

The upcoming Haat is planned in two pockets — one will have 131 craft shops, 29 air conditioned shops, exposition hall, auditorium, amphitheatre, food court, five dedicated towers for Music, Museum, coffee home, art gallery and information centre, party lawns, landscaping and Horticulture, while the second pocket will have a youth hostel.

First Dilli Haat food and craft bazaar was established in 1994 at INA. The bazaar was built on a storm water drain utilising innovative architectural techniques and won PATA award in 1993 and many others credits. The second Dilli Haat was constructed in Pitampura, North-West Delhi.

The government has also decided to upgrade and improve the two existing colonies of its employees. The colony at Timarpur has 802 flats in type B, C & D categories.
In order to make the stay of employees and their families comfortable, an amount of Rs18.72 crore has been sanctioned. About Rs 64.76 crore has also been sanctioned for the renovation of colony at Gulabi Bagh.

The EFC has also approved two projects of the Transport Department. An amount of Rs12.95 crore has been sanctioned for construction of a Bus Depot near Kushak Nallah for the cluster buses. Another amount of Rs 11.70 crore will be released for the same purpose near Sunahri Bagh Nallah.

A project of Higher Education Department also received approval which relates to supplementary construction and provision of other civil and electrical works in Shahid Rajguru College. An amount of Rs 11.88 crore has been sanctioned for this purpose.
