Achuthanandan urge Karnataka CM for medical treatment to Madani

Last Updated 29 December 2011, 10:08 IST

Kerala opposition leader V S Achuthanandan today urged Karnataka Chief Minister D V Sadananda Gowda to take steps for proper medical treatment to PDP leader Abdul Nasser Madani, an accused in the 2008 Bangalore serial blasts case and lodged in a jail there.

In a letter to Gowda, the CPI(M) leader also wanted the prosecution to speed up trial of Madani, who had been languishing in jail since August 2010. Achuthanandan said Madani had written to him, saying his health condition was quite bad and that he required expert medical treatment.

The CPI(M) leader said he was bitterly opposed to the activities of Madani and his supporters. If Madani was found guilty of charges brought against him, he deserved punishment. At the same time, inordinately delaying the trial in any case involved denial of human rights and justice, he said.

Madani was arrested from his camp at Anawarssery in Kollam district in August 2010 by Karnataka police in connection with the 2008 Bangalore serial blast case.
