A 26-year-old woman poisoned her daughter to death, before consuming poison herself at her Suttur colony residence in Bagalur on Friday night.

The deceased are Subbalakshmi and her daughter Madhushree, 7, a second standard student of Vishu Jyothi Public School. The incident came to light when Subalakshmi’s mother came to visit her daughter and found the door locked from inside. When there was no response, she alerted the people and the police, who broke the door open and barged inside, only to see the mother and child lying dead.

Subbalakshmi was married to Manjunath, a resident of Anekal. The couple had differences and Subbalakshmi had separated from Manjunath. For the last few years, she was running a provision store for a living. Meanwhile, she got close to a man in the same locality. It is said neighbours started talking ill about the affair and this might have forced her to take the extreme step.
