25 social sciences students selected for scholarship

As many as 25 students pursuing graduation in social sciences have been selected for scholarship of Rs 7,500 per year under the Social Science Talent Search (SSTS) scholarship programme.

The programme is a collaborative effort of the Bangalore University, Institute for Social and Economic Change (ISEC), the Christ University and the Karnataka State Knowledge Commission, an official release said.

Students were given the first half-yearly scholarship at a function held at ISEC here yesterday. The scholarship would be given to 25 students for a span of three years, till they complete their graduation in social sciences, it said.

The scholarship is aimed to attracting talented youth into the social science disciplines by motivating and informing them about the importance of social sciences in nation-building and
the available career opportunities within.

R S Deshpande, Director, ISEC, said the scholarship is aimed at attracting the young and talented minds to social science stream by promoting their interest in these basic social sciences.

This is a pilot project that will be extended to the state and national levels subsequently on the lines of the National Talent Search Examination in Science, he said. To begin with, as a pilot project, it was confined only to colleges in the Bangalore Division comprising more than 800
