Badshahs edge past Comets

Bhopal Badshahs defeated Chandigarh Comets 4-3 in the opening match of the World Series Hockey at the Sector-42 Stadium here on Wednesday.

It was a fine performance by Badshahs, with Laxman Baskaran, son of their coach Vasudevan Baskaran, leading the way. The final quarter witnessed a flurry of action, with four goals coming in the space of seven minutes as Badshahs stepped up the pressure.

Laxman (sixth and 63rd minutes), Geowynee Kyle Gamiet (26th minute) and Affan Yousuf (61st minute) struck for Badshahs while Gurjinder Singh scored a brace (22nd & 57th minutes) and Jasjit Kular Singh scored the other goal (29th minute) for Comets.

Meanwhile, former Indian skipper Rajpal Singh was named the captain of Delhi Wizards. “I am honoured to lead the Delhi Wizards. I hope to live up to the confidence shown in me by the franchise and give our fans an exciting season of hockey,” he said.
