A day after the schedule for the MCD polls was announced, a clash between the supporters of a Bahujan Samaj Party leader and some MCD workers broke out on Friday.

The zonal deputy commissioner of outer Delhi was injured in the scuffle, police said.
BSP councillor Praveen Gupta was demanding completion of pending work before the imposition of the model code of conduct.

Narela zonal deputy commissioner of MCD Kuldeep Kumar Yadav was roughed up by BSP workers in his office. They also ransacked the office, following which BSP councillor of Narela ward was taken into custody by police.

Yadav, who got minor injuries, was taken to hospital.

“Yadav was attacked by councillor Praveen Gupta. He received minor injuries,” said a senior police officer.

“Gupta, after entering Yadav’s office, asked him to sign on an official document. When he refused, Gupta hit him and broke windowpanes. He also threw away some files lying on the table,” said the police officer.

Yadav called the police control room, but a female police officer allegedly told him that no help was available immediately.

The model code of conduct will come into force on Monday, and Friday was the last day for completing the pending work demanded by the BSP councillor.
