When we imagine our city, the first few things that cometo mind are pollution, chaotic roads, dirt etc. But here is someone who have her own imagination of cityscape, where the city is not dirty, filthy, noisy or polluted, but bright and beautiful with heart and full of joy.

Cityscape, the maiden exhibition of emerging artist Vimmi Indra is not just her own perception of city but instead gives every viewer the freedom to perceive the paintings as someone wishes to see it.

In her paintings Vimmi has used bright colors to show happiness and vitality. The paintings show the beauty of the city, imagination being used to suppress the unpleasant things.

The artist has taken special consideration to bridge the gap between craft and Fine Arts. The beautiful and intricate work of the craftsmen deserves recognition and works as an ornament to her works.

Her main hope from the exhibition is to remind the people of the beauty around them which they fail to see due to their busy lives making them unimaginative.

This Bachelor of fine arts from Jabalpur says, “ The theme for this exhibition has been in my mind for long, and it has taken four years to bring it to present shape. The very idea of showcasing the city and the life in it came after several years of traveling to different cities all over India excites me. However the paintings do not depict any actual city rather it is a city of her imagination.

The paintings are the combination of reality and imagination with liberal use of Indian colors and bright ornamentation, which she has derived from Indian crafts. The show is dedicated to the people.”

All the paintings exhibited have got some element of a city and the city life like roads, walls, buildings or interiors with the golden and red color in each, sometimes taking abstract form.

She dedicates this show to her mentor Padma Shri Anjolie Ela Menon  one of India's leading contemporary female artists, a well known muralist whom she continues to assist her in her numerous art projects including installations and murals. Vimmi adds, “She has been the pillar of strength behind me for the last four years. Her mentoring is what has enabled me to develop this unique style.”

Citiscapes 'Solo art exhibition by emerging artist Vimmi Indra is on till April 8 at Triveni Gallery,Triveni Kala Sangam, 205, Tansen Marg, Mandi house.
