The campus of REVA ITM was thrown into festivity recently, as the students of the college got together to put up ‘Revamp — 2012’, their annual techno-cultural fest.

The fest, which was the perfect opportunity for the college population to leave behind the shackles of the classroom, included myriad events and competitions, and witnessed a footfall of around 4,000 student participants. The college campus was done up until it smacked of a rustic, rural environment — complete with straw huts and colourful banners which the students put up themselves.

The three-day extravaganza included many opportunities for students from across the City to exhibit their creative tendencies. With events such as a photography competition, rangoli-designing, creative writing, street plays, dumb charades, ‘Mad Ads’ and sketching, students were literally spoilt for choice. Teams from colleges such as MSRIT, NMIT, Nagarjuna and BMSCE took part in the fest. The cultural portion of the fest also included a Western Electric, wherein bands from colleges across the City had to battle it out on stage. The bands which competed included ‘Hungry’, ‘Morph Code’, ‘Tiffin Box’, ‘Apothesys’, ‘Cheistrah’, ‘Morphine Overdose’, ‘String Concept’, ‘Portal of Deception’, ‘Digital Sympathy’ and ‘Thrash’. A medley of songs — including original compositions as well as renditions of popular alternate rock and heavy metal numbers — were put up.

Ultimately, ‘Hungry’ walked away with the first prize, while ‘Portal of Deception’ came in a close second.Another interesting event held during the festival was ‘Stress Buster’, an event which followed the format of a Roadies interview. Contestants had to fill in forms which included several personal questions, after which they had to sit down for a formal interview — the idea being to see how long they could stand the pressure before giving in. Students such as Neha Yadav and Arjun Rao — both from REVA ITM itself — sat for the interview to see how long they could handle it before they cracked. A fashion show was also held, with teams from colleges like REVA ITM, Nagarjuna College of Engineering and Technology and NMIT to name a few. While REVA ITM won the first place, the students from Nagarjuna College of Engineering walked away with the second prize.

Abhiruchi, one of the organisers of the festival, said that putting the entire event together had been quite an experience. “It took us about a month, since we had our first meeting in the first week of February. We had to miss lots of classes — I literally have zero per cent attendance — and had to compromise on our projects, but we’re really happy with how it’s turned out. The entire event was handled by the students, with some guidance from our lecturers,” she explained.
