Wild elephants unleash havoc

Elephant attacks are now becoming routine in Kumbramane. On Saturday evening two elephants attacked plantations and destroyed crop worth lakhs of rupees, unleashing a sense of fear in the region. 

Coconut and banana plantations in village were damaged by elephant attack on Friday night. Saturday night elephants entered into coconut plantation belonging to B A Srinivasa Gowda and destroyed the trees. They have even destroyed the stack of paddy stored in the field. Arecanut and coffee plantation were also destroyed by the pachyderms.

A herd of elephants attacked the plantations fifteen days ago. Prakash, resident of the village said that during the day the elephants camp in Elekallu and Andavani forests and attack the plantations at night. He complained that the forest department is not taking steps to stop the menace. The villagers have demanded compensation from the department.
