Two female elephants die in forest ranges

Two female elephants died of different dieases at Kudumbur and Kodagu-Mysore forest demarcation ranges of Nagarhole National Park, some 221 km from here, forest officials said today.

Rajiv Gandhi National Park Veterinary Officer K S Uma Shankar said the post-mortem revealed that one elephant died due to severe vaginal infection and the other succumbed to intestinal pain.

Both the elephants were undergoing treatment from yesterday after they were found lying in a dehydrated condition in different ranges of the national park, Range Officer V Devaraj told PTI.

One elephant, aged 15 years, was found lying at Kudumbur forest range and another aged 35, near Kodagu-Mysore demarcation line of the national park, he said.

The veterinarians treated them by administering glucose and antibiotic medicines, Devaraj said, adding, they did not respond to treatment and died.
