Tahsildar acts, averts encroachment of lake

While the State government is spending crores of rupees in rejuvenating lakes in the State, a developer is accused of making a bid to level the lake to usurp the area.

Kurubana Katte lake (survey no 17) at Basavanapura adjacent to the second phase of fourth stage of Vijayanagar was allegedly found being levelled. Following this gram panchayat members Sahukar Hundi Ramesh, Swamy Gowda, Guruswamy and Gopal had raised objections. 

According to them, Srikanth a developer owns seven acres plot (survey 19) abutting the lake area. The lake area includes go mala spread over 45 acres. 

The lake that has a history of 200 years was desilted under Mahatma Gandhi National Rural Employment Guarantee Act (MGNREGA). It caters to Basavanapura, Madagalli and Sahukar Hundi. 

Acting on the information, tahsildar Naveen Joseph who visited the spot ordered for the seizure of an earth mover and lorry. He promised to initiate action only after surveying the disputed site.
