In the fourth incident in ten days, a 19-year-old girl was allegedly raped by a person in a park in the eastern fringes of the city on Thursday night.

The girl, who hails from Mumbai, came to Kolkata a month before and was staying with her uncle at Akra in South 24 Parganas where she was working as a domestic help.

According to the police, she left her uncle’s house five days before because she had some dispute with her uncle and aunt and was staying at Sealdah station where she met a person named Mintu Hooda who promised to help her return to Mumbai.

However, in her FIR, the girl wrote that on Thursday night Hooda took her to a Park and, after drinking some cold-drink he offered, she fell unconscious and then she was raped, police said.

“The girl has lodged a complaint and we have sent her to a ladies home. She will be taken for medical test tomorrow at National Medical College and Hospital,” Deputy Commissioner of Police (Eastern- Southern Division), Satyajit Banerjee said.

When asked whether she was raped, Banerjee said, “That cannot be said for certain. After the medical test we will come to know the truth”.

This is the fourth case of rape in and around Kolkata in the last ten days. On Monday night a 26-year-old woman was allegedly drugged and raped by her landlord Debjyoti Kar Bhowmik and his three friends at Barasat in North 24 Parganas district.

The woman was found stripped and unconscious infront of a neighbour’s house and was immediately rushed to the hospital.

In another incident, a 30 year old mentally challenged woman was rescued by the police from beside Kona Expressway in neighbouring Howrah district.

The woman, according to the police, was allegedly raped and thrown away from the car on the wayside.
