Deputy commissioner P S Vastrad said that 1128 customised equipment to 575 disabled beneficiaries worth about Rs 50 lakh would be distributed on September 9 and 10 at B V Karantha Rangamandira and Kannada Karanji Building on premises of Dasara Exhibition Grounds.

At a press meet here on Thursday, he said that Pandit Deen Dayal Institute for the Physically Handicapped, New Delhi, under the aegis of Ministry of Social Justice & Empowerment, Government of India and their regional centre at Secunderabad in collaboration with district administration, District Disability Rehabilitation Centre Indian Red Cross Society (DDRCIRCS), Department for the Empowerment of Differently-abled and Senior Citizens Mysore had conducted a comprehensive rehabilitation clinical assessment mega camp for differently-abled persons on May 1 and 2.

The camp was conducted to provide free customized aids and appliances to  the differently-abled persons of Mysore Under ADIP (Assistance to Disabled Persons) Scheme of Government of India, he added.

Elaborating on the project, he said, more than 10 speciality doctors were involved in the screening programme where various categories of differently-abled persons like orthopedically handicapped, mentally retarded, visually impaired, hearing impaired and multiple disabled persons participated. Among 2000 candidates, 575 beneficiaries were assessed for various essential aids and appliances.

Pertaining to the ‘comperhensive mega camp,’ he said that a total of 1128 aids and appliances like tricycles, wheel chairs,  crutches, artificial limbs, calipers, walkers, surgical shoes walking sticks, hearing aids, white canes, Braille slates, Braille watches, splints, C P chairs and special education kit for the mentally retarded children is allotted.

Refering about the accouterments, Vastrad said, they would be customised and would be comfortable for use against the previous standard sized ones, which would have difficulty for movement of organs. “The materials distributed would facilitate easy movement of organs naturally.”

At the apogee of the camp, he claimed that this camp was the first of its kind in India being successfully done as the one conducted in Bangalore witnessed.

Member secretary of DDRCIRCS Dr D S Vidyashankar said that there were hurdles in getting the project approved and it was due to the efforts and persuasion of the DC which convinced the authorities to sanction it for the district.

The programme would be inaugurated by minister for medical education district in-charge minister  S A Ramdas and MLA of Chamaraja Constituency Shankaralinge Gowda would preside.  Leader of opposition Siddaramaiah would distribute the aids and appliances to the identified beneficiaries.

Beneficiaries attending should carry original documents along with xerox ones.
Mega camp coordinator and P and O engineer E Ravishankar and camp assistant B K Yogeesh were present.
