Dismissing their 32-run loss to Pakistan in the Super Eights as a one-off, Australian captain George Bailey stressed on the need to play care free cricket.

“If you look at the tournament all teams have had a game they haven’t done well and also Pakistan did very, very well,” Bailey pointed out on Thursday ahead of Australia’s World T20 semifinal against the West Indies on Fruday. “I don’t think you have to look much into it. We have the momentum and confidence. We are in the semifinal and there is no second chance; we go out there and play the way we do. That’s the thinking right now. The other night we were tentative so we will go out and play the way we do, throw caution to the wind and if that is still not good enough then we are not good enough,” he elaborated.

While hinting at middle-order batsman David Hussey’s return to the side, Bailey admitted there was a bit of reliance on Shane Watson.” A bit yes, but if we bat the way we do then I don’t think so. Everything is based on hindsight isn’t it? We have absolute confidence in the middle-order that we have and they can score enough runs to give a total that we can defend or chase down.”

Bailey agreed West Indies’ major strength was their batting. “The West Indies strength is their batting but we have the confidence that we can chase down anything they set or we can put up a good score on the board. Confidence is a huge thing, once you get to these knockout games you know there are no weak teams or weak players left. It’s all about winning on that day. India were knocked out after winning four out of five and the West Indies have sneaked in with a few less (victories). That’s the format of the game. Once you get to the knockout stages you got to play the best you can,” he explained.
