Sites, erratic power supply, water woes come under scanner in review meet

District-in-Charge Minister C T Ravi took the officials to task with related to distribution of sites among the beneficiaries, erratic power supply, shortage of drinking water and shortage of teachers in primary and high schools.

The villagers of Kudkoli, Pandavarakallu and others had submitted a memorandum to the Minister on acute shortage of water.  The Minister directed the Mescom and the PWD officials to work in coordination when taking up the work on widening the road.
He directed the labour department officials to identify beneficiaries for the pension and accident insurance for the unorganised labourers.

The Minister also urged excise officials to initiate stringent action against illicit liquor sold at Narikombu.  Ravi said that case should be filed against those contractors, who have failed to drill borwells sanctioned under Ganga Kalyana scheme. The police should file atrocity on Dalits case against the contractor.

The BEO said that there are 22 schools with single teachers in the taluk. There is shortage of mathematics and science teachers. The guest teachers should be appointed to sort out the problems on shortage of teachers.

The Minister asked why no measures were taken to merge a school with three children in Kolnadu.  There ae 575 anganwadi centres in the taluk. As many as 99 anganwadi centres do not have own building and there is shortage of 26 sites for the construction of anganwadi centre, to which, the Minister directed Tahsildar to set right the problem.

He said the new vented dam at Thumbe will be 13 metre high and water will be stored upto 7 metres. The villagers of in and around Thumbe are in fear of submergence.
A re-survey should be carried out to give a complete details on the project.

MLAs B Ramanath Rai, U T Khader, Dakshina KannadaZilla Panchayat  President Koragappa Naik, Vice-President Rithesh Shetty, Deputy Commissioner Dr N S Channappa Gowda, Zilla Panchayat Chief Executive Officer Dr K N Vijayaprakash and others were present.

Foundation for polytechnic

Higher Education Minister C T Ravi said that the country can develop only when education is imparted on all its citizens.

Speaking after laying foundation for the building of Government Polytechnic College in Bantwal on Monday, he said the college building will be built at a cost of Rs 8 crore. In the last four and half years, the State government has released enough grants for higher education.

There are 38 government polytechnic colleges in Karnataka.  Additional 40 colleges has been started recently.

The government had released a sum of Rs 17 crore towards the construction of college buildings and rest rooms for lecturers. MLA Ramanath Rai presided.

The Minister also laid foundation for Morarji Desai Residential School building, at  cost of Rs 35 lakh, at Vagga. MLC Monappa Bhandary, Balbhavan Society President Sulochana Bhat, former MLA Padmanabha Kottary and others were present.
