The Karnataka State Pollution Control Board (KSPCB) has no opinion over the Bruhat Bangalore Mahanagara Palike’s suggestions to dump garbage in abandoned quarries around the City.

Speaking to reporters on the sidelines of an event on Thursday, KSPCB chairperson Vaman Acharya said that the Board would “neither give permission nor object” to the idea of dumping the City’s refuse in these abandoned quarries.

Abandoned quarries

“The Palike has been seeking the KSPCB’s approval to dump waste in low-lying areas like abandoned quarries for three months. We are aware of the situation and the problems faced by the Palike. However, the KSPCB will neither give permission nor object to their efforts to clear garbage from the City streets,” he said.

Time frame sought

Acharya said he expected a written memorandum from the Palike on a time frame for the use of quarries as dump yard.

“Once the quarries are filled, we expect them to be covered  with soil and a green space to be developed in the areas,” he said.
