Gang assaults toll collectors

Two toll collectors at the Devihalli Gate, Nelamangala on the Nelamangala-Hassan highway were threatened and assaulted by a group of eight men who refused to pay the toll Sunday night.

Madhu, 28, and Lokesh, 30, were manning the toll booth at the Devihalli Gate.
Two cars with about eight men, all in an inebriated state, arrived there and the men refused to pay the toll. This led to an altercation between the two sides.

Sources said one of them claimed to be a corporator and threatened the two with dire consequences.  The gang assaulted the two and fled the scene. Lokesh and Madhu sustained severe injuries.

One care seized

They informed the Nelamnagala police, who rushed to the spot and shifted the duo to a nearby private hospital for treatment. They are said to be out of danger. They have lodged a complaint at Nelamangala Rural police station. Police said they had seized one of the cars in which the assaulters came and detained two men in connection with the case.
The police declined to comment on the involvement of any corporator.
