Congress MLA Arkalgud Manju has threatened to resign from his Assembly membership, if the Congress party allowed retired IAS officer S Puttaswamy to join the party.

On Saturday, Puttaswamy, who is a supporter of Congress leader Siddaramaaiah, came to the party office along with his supporters to formally join the party.

His induction into the party, however, had to be stalled, as Manju, who is presently in New Delhi, is said to have called KPCC president G Parameshwara and threatened to quit.

Instead, two JD(S) workers Milind Dharmasena and Raju Achar joined the party.

Sources said about five days ago, Manju had written to Parameshwara stating that there were indications that Puttaswamy was joining the party and that he would be given the ticket from Arkalgud.

Manju had appealed to Parameshwara stating that Puttaswamy should not be entertained as he had worked against the party.
