The JDU on Thursday indicated that it was ready to discuss FDI in retail in Parliament irrespective of whether there will be voting after the discussion.

However, the party said it will go with the consensus among the Opposition on the issue. Party chief Sharad Yadav told mediapersons that his party has issued notices for discussion under two rules. One, Rule 184, entails voting, while the other, rule 193, does not.

He said efforts are on to reach a consensus among the Opposition parties. “We will go by any of the two options on which there is a general consensus,” Yadav said, adding that his party will also issue notices to Speaker of the Lok Sabha Meira Kumar for discussions on CAG reports on aviation, power and coal block allocation.

He also said the winter session of Parliament should function properly. “This session will run properly. There is no question of a wash out. It is through debates in Parliament that public opinions are formed,” said the JDU chief.

Except for the Left and the BJP, most of the key parties like SP and BSP are yet to declare their stand on the issue.
