HC issues contempt notice to CS

The High Court on Friday ordered the issuance of contempt notice to Chief Secretary S V Ranganath, Principal Secretary V Umesh, Director General of Police Lal Rukhama Pachao and others for not following the roster and backlog formalities while promoting 25 police inspectors to the post of Deputy SPs.

Hearing a related petition, a Division Bench headed by K Sreedhar Rao took exception to the government for not abiding by a previous High Court order asking the Home Department to follow roster system and fill up the backlog while awarding promotions to the police inspectors mentioned in the case.

The petitioners have argued that when promotions were given to police inspectors (in the SC/ST category) on June 25, 2011, the roster system was not followed.

The High Court, in its order dated March 3, 2012, had directed the Home Department to follow the roster system in giving promotions to the DySp posts. However, there has been no follow up done by the Home Department on the order, the petitioner contended.

The Division Bench issued contempt notices against the respondents and adjourned the case.
