A section of Anganwadi workers and assistants took out a rally and staged dharna against the taking over of anganwadi kendras in the Chikkaballapur Lok Sabha constituency by the Vedanta foundation, on Sunday.

The protesters affiliated to Centre for Indian Trade Unions (CITU), were arrested by the police when they tried to storm into the programme venue and were later released.
They took out a rally from the inspection bungalow as the programme began.
Protesters raised slogans against the move throughout the procession, which passed through the BB Road.

As they approached the venue, Nandi Rangamandir, the protesters tried to storm into the programme.

However, they were stopped and arrested by the policemen. The protesters were taken to police station. Some of them staged protest at the venue.

Traffic affected

Tension prevailed for some time as there were hundreds of protesters at the venue. The vehicular movement was also hindered.

Earlier, the president of CITU Anganwadi Workers and Assistants Organisation district unit president Lakshmidevamma said that the government was paving way for privatisation of Anganwadi Kendras by handing over them to Vedanta foundation.
“The government is escaping from its duty,” she added.
