Meet on emerging trends and herbal technology from tomorrow

A two-day national conference on ‘Emerging Trends in Ayurveda and Herbal Drug Technology’ (ETAHDT-2012) is being held on November 22 and 23 at Teresian College, Siddarthanagar in the city.

A release from the college states that the conference is jointly organised by the department of chemistry and bio-technology of the college and National Rural Health Mission (NRHM), department of Ayush, Government of Karnataka on the occasion of golden jubilee celebration of the college.

Vice-chancellor of Symbiosis International University (SIU) Bhushan Patwardan, Pune, Maharashtra will deliver the key-note address. Emeritus scientist, CIMAP, GKVK, Bengaluru, R Raghavendra Rao, HoD, biotechnology, University of Mysore, H S Prakash, director, centre for advanced studies in biosciences, Jain University, Bengaluru, former executive officer Karnataka Bio-diversity Board, Sathyanarayana Bhat are among the speakers. Former director of CFTRI V Prakash will deliver the valedictory address.

Biotechnology is a highly promising interdisciplinary field so also Ayurveda which is regaining global popularity. Botany, Biotechnology, Microbiology, Chemistry, Allopathy, Food and nutrition, Pharmacology, Toxicology and Bio-nanotechnology may get leads from Ayurveda.

Holistic practice

Ayurveda, the holistic practice of medicine, leads to facilitate natural product drug discovery. While taking leads, it is important to respect, protect and promote traditional knowledge. Scientifically validated and technologically standardised botanical products may be derived using traditional medicine-inspired reverse pharmacology approach.

Research

Research in Ayurveda has been dominated by studies on medicinal plants and development of herbal drugs, which has a large market globally.
This conference aims to make a challenging platform to bring experienced experts to share, encourage, inspire the younger generation from the various fields, the release added.
