An elephant was electrocuted when it came in contact with an illegal electrical fencing at Etnatta village of the taluk Tuesday midnight.
The pachyderm was electrocuted in the farm belonging to Chandregowda,
where Sudhakar is undertaking farming, Tuesday midnight.
However, Sudhakar and others did not bring the matter to the notice of the Forest department.
They allegedly poured petrol over the jumbo’s carcass, set it ablaze and buried the remains in a pit.
When the incident came to light, Forest officials arrested Lokesh, one of the suspects. Based on his statement, a case has been registered against Sudhakar and several others, who are absconding. Police are investigating.
The bones and dung of the elephant have been sent to the laboratory in Dehra Dun for testing.
