The City Municipal Corporation (CMC) has taken up several initiatives to beautify the city and improve basic infrastructure. As part of the initiative,  Beedungudde dumping yard will be converted into a spacious playground and an open air theatre at a cost of Rs 3.5 crore.

CMC Commissioner Gokuldas Nayak told Deccan Herald that the project also involves construction of roads and drains in the surrounding areas. Already, the work is in progress, he added.

Malpe-Padukere bridge, which is a long-pending demand of the residents in the area, is being proposed and the government has promised to release Rs 13.5 crore. Once the bridge is complete, then the residents of Padukere can reach Udupi by covering barely a distance of 5 km. The work will be taken up after the proposal is approved by the government, he said.

Road repair

The CMC also plans to repair the stretch from Syndicate Circle to newly-built DC Office Rajatadri near End Point at an estimated cost of Rs 4.5 crore. This stretch has steep curves and is filled with potholes and causing severe inconvenience to the vehicle users.  Density of vehicles on the stretch has increased following the shifting of the DC office. The work on the concreting of the road will be taken up soon, said the Commissioner.

The other ambitious project of the CMC is widening of Gundibailu-Kalsanka stretch. The land has been acquired for the Rs 7-crore project and the work will be taken up on a priority basis and completed before the commencement of the monsoon.

Park devt

Of the 17 parks in the city limits, the four-acre Bujanga Park has been developed at a cost of Rs two crore. The park has a walking path, lawns and seating arrangements. As many as 15 benches have been installed in the park.

“We are planning to grow more endangered and medicinal plants in the park. “We are also planning to improve other parks in Udupi,” he said.
