Polling for four Legislative Council seats under the Panchayat quota ended peacefully in Jammu and Kashmir on Monday, with over 90 per cent of the panchayat members exercising their franchise in 149 booths across the state.
“The Election Commission had appointed two observers and some micro-observers to monitor the process. Five to eight complaints of violation of the model code of conduct were received,” Jammu and Kashmir Chief Electoral Officer Umang Narulla said.
Apprehending backlash from militants, the authorities had deployed CRPF and police personnel at the booths. Of the 77 polling stations in Kashmir, 42 were declared sensitive, 11 hypersensitive and 24 normal.
