A 20-year-old man was critically injured after being shot at by a youth known to him over a minor argument at a wedding ceremony in north east Delhi’s Khajuri Khas, police said on Sunday.

Mohit, who hails from Haryana’s Panipat district, is undergoing treatment at Lok Nayak Hospital, police said.

“The incident took place during Mohit’s friend Jeetender’s wedding ceremony on the wee hours of Saturday,” a police officer said.

Jeetender’s brother Manjeet told police that a minor argument had taken place after three men — Rohit, Pankaj and Moni, residents of Narela — were seen misbehaving with people outside the pandal at around 10:30 pm on Friday.

Mohit and Manjeet tried to bring the situation under control, but Rohit started abusing Mohit.

All of them then went inside the pandal and took part in the rituals. But, shortly after midnight, Rohit, Pankaj and Moni went to Mohit and surrounded him.

Manjeet said Rohit opened fire at Mohit with a country-made pistol and fled from the spot.
“Mohit suffered a gunshot wound on his chest,” the officer added. He was rushed to Sushruta Trauma Centre. He was later referred to Lok Nayak Hospital.

A case of attempt to murder was registered against Rohit, Pankaj and Moni over Manjeet’s statement with Khajuri Khas police station.

“Investigation is underway and the accused are yet to be arrested,” the officer said.
