Bowling enthusiasts will have an entertaining ten days ahead of them with Bangalore scheduled to host two National tenpin bowling championships beginning on Tuesday.

The fifth National team championship will be held from Dec 11 to 16 and 24th individual event is scheduled for December 17 to 20, at the Blu O in Orion Mall, Malleswaram.

“We hope to unearth talent for the 2014 Asian Games and World Championship from this event,” said Karti P Chidambaram, the Tenpin Bowling Federation of India president, at a press meet here to announce the event on Monday.

Around 101 bowlers – 75 men and 26 women – are expected to take part in the meet which will have a total prize money of Rs 4.5 lakh in the individual format.

The men’s and women’s winner will take home Rs 60,000 and Rs 35,000 respectively while bowlers up to the 24th position too will be granted cash awards. The team event top finishers will receive only medals.

Some of the top names expected to compete in the meet are defending champion Shabbir Dhankot of Tamil Nadu and Karnataka bowlers Vijay Punjabi, Akaash Ashok Kumar and Prathima Hegde.

Holders Karnataka along with runners-up Delhi will be favourites in the team event. The team championship will have competitions in Men’s and Women’s doubles, Mixed Trios (2 men + 1 woman) and Mixed Team of 5 (4 men + 1 woman) categories.

The tournament is being played in the league-cum-knockout formatwhere long and medium oil patterns will be used. After the three rounds, top four players move into the knockout stage which will be played in the Stepladder format.
