The famous saying ‘catches win matches’ did not find a right place at the Manipal Institute of Technology Ground as the Mangalore University registered a handy 74-runs victory, despite disappointing play by fielders, over the Periyar University, Salem on the fourth day of the South Zone Inter-University Cricket Tournament here at Manipal on Tuesday.

The local boys’ butter fingers dropped minimum half a dozen sure catches, which could be the dark spot on their performance against Tamil Nadu team.

Right hander Shivaraj took 42 runs and was well supported by Mohammed Shaheer, who knocked a useful 22 with his willow. Vinoth took three wickets for 24 runs for the visitors.
