Tamil Nadu spill catches aplenty as Uttar Pradesh cash in

Thanks to dropped chances by hosts Tamil Nadu, Uttar Pradesh managed to post 279 for six on the opening day of their four-day Group B Ranji Trophy match here on Saturday.

Electing to bat, opener Tanmay Srivastava survived two chances early on before being finally caught by Suresh Kumar off Aushik Srinivas for 31. Abhinav Mukund was the fielder on both occasions — at short leg and silly point.

Srivastsava’s partner, Mukul Dagar, was caught by Baba Aparajith off Malolan Rangarajan. UP were 57 for two before Mohammad Kaif and Umang Sharma brought about some stability to their innings.

Brief scores: Group A: At Indore: Mumbai: 235/5 in 90 overs (Kaustubh Pawar 89 batting, Aditya Tare 42, Ankeet Chavan 36 batting, Abhishek Nayar 28; Ishwar Pandey 4-28) vs Madhya Pradesh.

At Hyderabad: Hyderabad: 247/6 in 93 overs (Bavanka Sandeep 68, Ashish Reddy 60 batting, Kolla Sumanth 45, Syed Quadri 27, Amol Shinde 26 batting; Murali Kartik 2-60, Karan Sharma 2-85) vs Railways.

At Jaipur: Rajasthan: 268/9 in 86.2 overs (Ashok Menaria 103, Vineet Saxena 71; Siddharth Trivedi 3-51, Jaydev Unadkat 3-54) vs Saurashtra.

At Valsad: Gujarat: 261/9 in 90 overs (Manprit Juneja 42, Samit Gohel 41, Jesal Karia 40, Rush Kalaria 40; Sandeep Sharma 3-40, Sarbjit Ladda 3-45, Siddarth Kaul 3-71) vs Punjab.
