Student raped by neighbour

Even as the President of India declared 2013 as Women’s Safety Year, an eighth standard student was raped by her neighbour on Tuesday, in Chikmagalur.

The accused Raju, 38, a worker in the local timber yard, has been arrested.
Raju lured the victim, who lived across the street with a bar of chocolate, and took her into his house in the evening.

After victim began screaming, neighbours broke into the house and thrashed Raju before handing him over to police. The victim is undergoing treatment at a district hospital.

Superintendent of Police N Shashikumar visited the hopsital to inquire about the girl’s condition. Rural police have registered a case.
