Ex-army chief seeks large turnout in Anna Hazare's rally

Former Army chief V K Singh today appealed to the people to turn out in large numbers at Gandhian Anna Hazare's proposed rally here on January 30.

"It is the need of the hour that the citizenry should collectively seek change of their political system by electing committed people to Parliament so that a good and corruption-free governance could be put in place to secure the future of the younger generation," Singh said.

While addressing a meeting of the India Against Corruption workers, he said Hazare was expected to announce the future course of action of his agitation.

On protests in Delhi against the gang-rape of a 23-year-old girl, Singh said it is obvious that the younger generation wants good governance and effective policy for security of the society.

He also demanded a special session of the Parliament to enact a strong law to deal with rape cases.

On Centre's decision to withdraw security cover provided to him, Singh said he is neither concerned about himself, nor he regrets what he has been doing ever since his retirement.

Singh also thanked Chief Minister Nitish Kumar for granting permission to hold the anti-corruption rally here.
