2 MP farmers held with drugs worth Rs 1.5cr

Two farmers from Madhya Pradesh have been arrested in west Delhi’s Naraina for allegedly trafficking drugs worth Rs 1.5 crore, police said on Saturday.

Ghanshyam Kumawat, 21, and Mehboob Mansuri, 35, who hail from MP’s Mandasaur district were held with 1.5 kg of heroin on Friday.

“We had information that Ghanshyam and Mehboob were involved in sale and supply of heroin in Delhi after procuring them same from Mandasaur,” said S B S Tyagi, deputy commissioner of police (crime and railways).

Tip-off

A tip-off was also received that they would be coming near Loha Mandir Road in Naraina to deliver a consignment between 9.30 am to 10 am on Friday. “A trap was laid, and Ghanshyam and Mehboob were apprehended at 10 am,” Tyagi added.

Contraband seized

On their frisking, one kg of heroin was recovered from Mehboob and 500 gm from Ghanshyam.

Both work on an ancestral agricultural land in thier native village, but started working for local drug traffickers due to poor financial condition.

A case under Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act has been lodged with crime branch police station.
