Vocational training for women

Last Updated 09 January 2013, 13:00 IST

The Union Ministry of Labour and Employment is offering vocational courses specially tailored for women through the Regional Vocational Training Institute.

To increase women’s participation in economic and social development in the country, this institute offers craftsman courses like Draughtsmanship, Dress Making, Data Entry Operator, Electronic Mechanic, Secretarial Practice, and Computer Programmer and Programming Assistant.

These courses can be pursued at two levels – Craftsmen Training Scheme (CTS) and Craft Instructor Training Scheme (CITS). While admissions to CTS are made on marks obtained in qualifying exams (SSLC/10th, PUC/12th ).

The courses have been tailored to meet the industry requirements, by means of hands-on practical training. This gives room for both paid employment and self-employment among the trained women. Whether it is first-timers seeking professional training or industry professionals looking forward to further improve their skills, both kinds will find the courses apt.

The institute is well-equipped with four distinctive blocks for administration, academics, workshop, and hostel and canteen.

Admissions to CITS are based on the marks obtained in CTS. Admissions to CTS open in June and to CITS in 4 batches from July, September, December, and March. Application and registration cost Rs 150, while the tuition fees per month costs Rs150. Hostel facility is also available. There is no upper age limit for any course and eligible candidates may also be awarded a merit scholarship.
